40 years ago, Yves Gastou opened his gallery on the rue Bonaparte.

But his story as a dealer began long before — from Carcassonne to Nice, from Toulouse to the flea markets of Saint-Ouen — always driven by an insatiable curiosity and a singular taste for the decorative arts and design.

When he settled in Paris in 1985, he imagined a space in his own image: passionate, audacious, free. He entrusted its creation to the greatest Maestro of them all: Ettore Sottsass. A figure who left a lasting mark on his journey… and who, years later, would also become the first aesthetic love of his son, Victor.

  • Victor worked by his father's side for 15 years. They were at once father and son, mentor and apprentice, becoming an inseparable duo that evolved together over the years. For them, the gallery was always more than just an exhibition space: it was a sacred place where they revealed their latest discoveries, where eras and styles converged to tell a story of aesthetics in constant motion — the "Goût Gastou", or Gastou taste.

"What a privilege it has been to inherit such a boundless legacy, never fixed, always evolving—a legacy that allowed me to express myself and find my own place. To discover and, in turn, present artists who left me in awe. What a magical fate, to spend an entire life hunting, exploring, championing creators, blending eras and styles. This love of contrasts, of dialogue between past and present, between iconic pieces and hidden treasures — that is what still drives me today."

    - Victor Gastou

To celebrate these 40 years of discoveries, this exhibition is a way to look back on the path traveled, to share the passions and encounters that have shaped the gallery’s story. A tribute to an eye, to Yves, to his vision, and to the adventure Victor continues to write, always with the same curiosity and the same passion.
