Christophe Brunnquell

Christophe Brunnquell has spent over three decades shaping the visual identity of French fashion and art publishing. He began his career as art director for the magazine Encore, before joining Purple, an influential fashion and art magazine founded in Paris in 1992. Brunnquell has served as art director at the magazine since 1993.

Alongside this editorial career, Brunnquell has cultivated a distinct practice as a visual artist, with his training as a designer surfacing naturally throughout. In 2004 he launched Carnaval, a magazine built entirely around his own artistic universe, and in 2008 he published "Années érotiques," issued as an insert to Purple's Spring/Summer edition that year.

Brunnquell was a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome from 2002 to 2003, and his work has been presented regularly in solo and group exhibitions since. His practice as an art director and designer has moved fluidly between fashion, publishing, and art, extending into collaborations with major cultural players like Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Céline, Le Figaro, and the Venice Biennale.

Galerie Gastou first presented Brunnquell's work in 2025 with a series of bronzes, marking his turn toward sculptural, three-dimensional design. Realized in limited editions, the series carries a distinctly naturalistic spirit, its zoomorphic forms lending an enchanting quality to otherwise sculptural silhouettes.

This new collaboration brings together two distinct visual languages, in a natural if unexpected encounter, resulting in objects at once playful and noble.
