Omar Chakil

A Multidimentional Approach
Omar Chakil, born to Egyptian, Lebanese, and French heritage, is a self-taught artist and designer whose path spans across music, interior design, and collectible furniture. After briefly studying at Milan’s Domus Academy, he pursued his own creative vision, merging craft, history, and cultural symbolism into unique sculptural works.
From private home decoration to creating limited-edition pieces, Chakil’s career reflects a continuous search for narrative and transcendence. His signature use of Egyptian alabaster, a rare and ancient material, reinterprets heritage through a modern aesthetic lens, bridging traditions of the past with contemporary forms.
From Egyptian Alabaster to Sculptural Design
Omar Chakil's work has been recognized internationally for introducing Egyptian alabaster into the realm of contemporary collectible design. His first major series, unveiled in 2018 at Beirut Design Week, showcased raw alabaster blocks carved into evocative, organic forms, earning acclaim across France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.
Each piece carries deep cultural resonance, transforming ancient Egyptian symbols into modern totems. From the Sobek Bench, inspired by a Nile crocodile’s fossilized tail, to the Uraeus Birth Chairs crowned with cobra hoods, Chakil's creations highlight the versatile beauty of alabaster and the enduring power of mythological imagery.
The Expanding World of Omar Chakil
Since his early exhibitions, Omar Chakil’s sculptural objects have been featured in major international fairs and galleries, including Dubai Expo 2020, MENART Fair in Brussels, Nomad in St. Moritz and Venice, and Carwan Gallery in Athens. In 2024, he was selected for the third consecutive year among Architectural Digest’s Top 50 Middle East talents.
The Galerie Gastou presents Omar Chakil’s latest works with a nod to the monumental spirit of ancient Egypt, blending research, heritage, and instinct. Today, Chakil continues to forge a path that transcends functionality, creating pieces that tell timeless stories and connect cultures through contemporary design.
